MoRe SpOoKy

Hi friends! I haven't had much time this week to browse around on Etsy so I'll postpone my Etsy Fave's until next week.

What happens when we are at the park doing this.....
and I spot this out of the corner of my eye....

Duh! No-brainer! Ha ha :)
As you can see, I didn't take the whole tree home with me (I would have if it fit in my car), but I took enough to get some pretty strange looks as we were leaving the park. ha ha! It's almost October 1st so I gave myself permission to let the spooky take over the rest of my house. My most recent victim was my kitchen.
I got this cool "spooky menu" at the dollar tree and I love it!

My candelabra looks pretty spooky too, especially filled with eyeballs :)

We've officially started our countdown to Halloween and my kids are super excited to see the numbers change. Kids! It's the little things that make them happy :)

(as you can see Asymmetry is my friend when spookifying).
Happy Friday everyone!!!!!  xo

New bedding and DIY shams

New bedding??? NEW BEDDING!!!! YAY!!!! (thanks hubby - I love you).
I finally got new bedding! I have been using the same old duvet and cover f-o-r-e-v-e-r! My hubby and I both decided that we are not a fan of the duvet/duvet cover system. Ours always bunches up and slides down and we are constantly adjusting and tugging etc. So, my mission was to find a comforter set that I loved (because I was NEVER going to be able to get another one, ha ha).

I fell in LOVE!!!!! See.....
If you're wondering, it's the Kate Spade Fairmont stripe Comforter from Bed Bath and Beyond! I have been crushing on black and white horizontal stripes for a while now and I knew this is the way I wanted to go!!! I love all of the pillows and shams in the set too, but they were WAY out of my budget. I ordered the comforter on-line and used a 20% off coupon, but it was going to take some effort on my part to diy the rest. This is where the DIY shams come in to play. The ones in the above picture are $50 per sham (yes, you read that right). NOPE. Not happening!!!

So, I was able to find solid black king sized shams on for $25 for the pair. Much better!
BUT - basic black was just not going to cut it. Nope. Not fancy shmancy enough for me. So, here goes.... wide white grosgrain ribbon and heat and bond. My 2 new best friends :)

I followed the instructions on the package and everything worked great!

first, cut ribbon and heat and bond to size.

Next, iron the heat and bond strip to the ribbon and peel off the paper backing..
Then just place it where you want it on the fabric and iron over the top.
I wanted to frame the sham with the ribbon so I used the existing stitch as my guide (I overlapped the ribbon in each corner and it worked great)

Next step....make the bed (not a fan of this, but from time to time I do it, ha ha!)

READY!!!????  Taadaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

I got the fun toss pillows at Home Goods :)
I love the way it looks and I think the diy shams definitely finished off the look. You like????
I like :)
(oh and please disregard my shadeless gold lamps. I attempted to spray paint my frumpy college apartment lamps gold, but finding the right size shades is proving impossible. I'm on the hunt for new lamps and shades all together because these are just NOT working).
Happy almost Friday!!!

Saturday randomness

Happy Saturday people!!! It has been a gloomy sprinkly day here in SoCal and definitely feels like Fall. Noah had a soccer game this morning and I really am enjoying watching him learn to play on a team and get some of his (crazy) energy out. Ha ha! Boys!!!

She's pretty fun to watch too :)
I had a super productive nap time after the game too. Yay! The house was quiet and I was a fool with a glue gun. Seriously! I made like a zillion flower hair clips for my Etsy shop, as well as some more glitter banners, paper banners etc.

(I made one of these for her and she LOVES it)

Pretty much, if you come over to my house today, you'll leave here covered in glue gun stringys. Ha ha!

Oh, and I got my "Jane Says" bird calendar in the mail today and it is even cuter in person!!! Can't wait to start using it in January (& if you haven't already, enter the giveaway to get your own by clicking HERE).
I also added to my spooky mantle a bit......a black glittery flag-style bunting (these will be in the shop too) :)

I still haven't busted out my tubs-o-Halloween decor yet. Hopefully this week I'll be able to splatter the house with spooky!!
I hope you all are having a GREAT weekend!!
Bye :)
